De opkomst en toenemende invloed van de vele Social Media sites zoals LinkedIn, Twitter en Facebook maakt een professionele online presentatie zeer belangrijk.

Een goed verzorgd profiel wordt teniet gedaan door een vakantiekiekje als profiel foto.

Of een foto ontbreekt geheel.

Potentiele klanten en relaties kijken ook naar de presentatie op internet. De eerste indruk is heel belangrijk. Laat dit niet verpesten door een inferieur profiel plaatje!

That got me thinking about the other limits to the influence of social media: privacy worries, intellectual property concerns, workplace regulations and the digital divide, just to name a few. While there isn’t much most of us outside of Iran can do about that country’s Web policies, we do have the power to address these other issues through advocacy, entrepreneurship and personal choice.

It is easy to see how this transfers into social media – the more something is spread the more it will be spread even further by word of mouth. Imagine two pieces of content of equal quality, interest or importance. It is the content that has been linked to, retweeted, forwarded or otherwise referred to that is more likely to become viral. For Hensel, “Social media is a linking machine” and the more links you can get to a piece of content the more likely that content is to become viral when compared to a similar piece.

Some of my favorite bloggers have said recently that they want to stop their current blog and start writing a blog about social media. How unoriginal. You aren’t an expert because you write about social media. You’re an expert because you use it.

Wereldwijd is de tijd die internetgebruikers op sociale netwerken zoals Facebook en Twitter doorbrengen met 82 procent gegroeid. Onderzoeksbureau Nielsen becijferde dat internetters in december 2008 gemiddeld 3 uur per maand op netwerk- en andere Web 2.0-sites doorbrachten en in december 2009 vijf uur. Facebook is favoriet. De site trok in december 2009 bijna 207 miljoen unieke bezoekers. In de Verenigde Staten neemt de tijd die mensen doorbrengen op sociale media jaarlijks met 210 procent toe volgens Nielsen. De paus heeft trouwens priesters opgedragen om ook zoveel mogelijk te bloggen en virtueel te netwerken.
