Inspiration Overload

The basic definitions for what constitutes a "meme" remain fairly constant, but debate rages about whether memetics is a science, a philosophy, a part of cultural studies or simply a buzz word to describe something we were all aware of anyway.

Current shows a snapshot of what the entire internet-using population in America has been thinking for the last 24 hours, in the form of their collective search history.  This information is condensed for readability into memes, living ‘thought organisms’ that act as though they have agency, control, and a selfish motivation.

The Culture Industry, deemed thusly by the Frankfurt School’s Adorno & Horkheimer, produces standardized units of popular culture that are utilized by companies to keep the masses continually participating in capitalism.
